Occasionally, unexpected events threaten higher education institutions. Our SEB strategists respond instantly to a crisis, as we have over the years for all of our university clients like Bowie State University. SRB has worked closely with the Bowie State President and university leaders to manage the image and impact of several crisis incidents that caused potential reputational damage. Our agency provided strategic counsel, PR and a crisis communications strategy to navigate messaging to internal and external stakeholders. We delivered a strategic crisis communications and PR plan leading up to and following the news briefings we coordinated with local and national media.

In one case, our challenge was to manage a particular incident that occurred during the backdrop of social and racial unrest in the U.S., while emotions escalated among students, faculty, administrators, parents and alumni at the university. We know how to effectively manage and communicate during a crisis to minimize institutional exposure and manage reputational risk. 

Bowie State University is the oldest Historically Black College/University in Maryland and one of the ten oldest in the country, founded in 1865. The university is part of the University System of Maryland since 1988.
