Maya Curls
Few things make us prouder than watching a former intern come home. Maya Curls got her start in communications as an SRB Communications intern in 2021, an experience she credits with propelling her career forward. Five years later, she returns to SRB, bringing a background in strategic communications and operations, engagement, event strategy and creative content development.
Most recently, she served as Communications Manager at Swope Health, a federally qualified health center in Kansas City, Missouri. She shaped internal and external communications, digital strategy and event activations across 25 clinics. As chair of the employee resource group, she grew in-person event attendance by more than 2,000%.
Earlier in her career, she led youth programs, artist activations and national public fundraising campaigns. Community work is the common thread, from nonprofit programming to grassroots outreach for local political campaigns. Raised in Los Angeles and shaped by her years in the nonprofit world, she approaches every project with a community-first lens and a deep commitment to storytelling that reaches underserved and underrepresented communities. Outside the office, she provides creative strategy for a jazz artist, translating the artist's vision into direction for photo shoots, merchandise, video concepts and design.
Maya holds a Master of Science degree in Communications, with a focus on Advertising, from Syracuse University and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Communications Advertising with a minor in graphic design, from Howard University.
Maya’s path from intern to manager is exactly why we invest in emerging talent.
