Dr. Brooks was inducted into the 2023 NABJ Hall of Fame and received the 2019 NABJ Ida B. Wells Award and the inaugural 2011 NABJ Patricia L. Tobin Media Professional Award. Dr. Brooks is also a three-time recipient of the NABJ President’s Award.
The Dr. Sheila Brooks NABJ Entrepreneur Scholarship reflects NABJ’s commitment to building on the legacy of the organization’s founding principles. Dr. Brooks is an Emmy-award winning journalist, entrepreneur, and dedicated advocate for minority, women’s and racial equity issues who is passionate about increasing African-American media ownership.
“Today, the general market is the multicultural market, and that should be reflected in our media landscape – the way forward is for large corporations to do business with minority and women-owned media companies.” says Dr. Brooks.
