The Secret Life of a Communications Intern in D.C. (Part 1)

First, let me introduce myself. My name is Aasiyah, but you can call me Si. I am the newest intern at SRB Communications. I started here about a week ago. And let me tell you right now, I am absolutely in awe of this agency!

During my internship interviews, I kept hearing that the agency is busy. But it’s another thing to actually witness it! My first glimpse into the SRB world was during their weekly staff meeting. It was very intense, but I learned a lot. After that, I knew that I was ready to get to work this summer!

I am not going to spend a lot of time bragging about how bomb this agency is (even though I could). Instead, I wanted to take the time to share some great tips I have discovered about how to maximize an internship. Take a look below!

  • Be early! When you’re early, you’re on time.
  • Ask questions.
  • Network. Network. Network!
  • Contribute as many ideas as you can to the company.
  • Don’t be afraid to step outside your comfort zone.

Now that we have handled all of our business chatter, let’s talk about how my experience in Washington, D.C. has been. I am from Philly and I know how to get around a city. But D.C. is another story on another level. First, if you don’t know how to use a metrocard, you need to learn. Because if you don’t, the people will let you know. Lol! Second, if you aren’t familiar with the area, I strongly recommend you dedicate some time on learning how to navigate the streets. And lastly, you’re going to need some money because daily expenses are not cheap, especially if you like to eat!
So, that was my first week as the Communications Intern at SRB Communications. Stay tuned to our social media channels this week because I’ll be behind the camera shooting a video or two! Don’t worry, I’ll tell you all about it soon!
