Baltimore, Md. – August 2, 2017 – Dr. Sheila Brooks, founder, President and CEO of SRB Communications, was among 60 local small business owners who graduated from a special Baltimore session of Goldman Sachs 10,000 Small Businesses. The prestigious and highly-competitive program provided training for local small business owners and is sponsored by Goldman Sachs, Bloomberg LP and Bloomberg Philanthropies, former New York City Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg and investor Warren Buffet.
Buffett, Bloomberg and Goldman Sachs Chairman and CEO Lloyd C. Blankfein, were all on hand at the Baltimore Center Stage to address the graduates along with their friends and families. Also present were Baltimore Mayor Catherine E. Pugh and Maryland Governor Larry Hogan.
During the ceremony, Goldman Sachs announced a new $10 million commitment to continue the program in Baltimore.
10,000 Small Businesses is a $500 million investment to help entrepreneurs grow and sustain their enterprises and create jobs and economic opportunity by providing greater access to education, capital and business support services. The program has served more than 8,000 small business owners from all 50 states and has resulted in immediate and sustained business growth for the alumni.
The ceremony came at the conclusion of two back-to-back 15-week classes that ran from January through July. The entrepreneurs participated in more than 100 hours of in-class training at Johns Hopkins University, through a business and management curriculum that covered accounting, negotiation and marketing, human resources and one-on-one business advice especially in the finance and legal area.
“When I received notice that I had been accepted into the special Baltimore session of Goldman Sachs 10,000 Small Businesses, I was elated,” says Dr. Brooks. “I have made new lifelong connections, learned so much from the curriculum and my business advisor. I developed a comprehensive growth plan for SRB Communications that I would have never been able to do outside of this program. I am forever grateful to be a 10KSB alumnus and I am very optimistic about what is in store for SRB Communications.”
