Judy Makanda serves as the agency’s Chief Financial Officer. In her role, Makanda is responsible for overseeing day-to-day financial operations and aligning the business and finance strategy for business growth. She oversees workplace policies, payroll administration and employee orientations.

Makanda is a Deloitte trained Chartered Accountant (CPA equivalent) with an MBA and 20+ years serving in CFO level positions in both non-profit and for-profit environments. From 
2006-2018, she served as CFO/Head of HR for a non-profit organization where she drove the organization’s strategic and financial strategy through development, implementation and pro-active evaluation of the organization’s financial performance. She partnered with department managers on strategic long- range planning, budgeting and forecasting new areas of development, as well as the analysis and strategy around member pricing. She was committed to maximizing the organization’s value proposition to its members ensuring a balanced portfolio of new and ongoing initiatives and maintaining a high level of integrity and transparency across the organization. 

Prior to joining the non-profit, Makanda served as Vice President Finance for a startup, where she played a key role as part of a team conceptualizing the business plan, securing $10 million from initial equity investor groups. She also worked at a development organization as a financial analyst where she undertook various project finance assignments in energy, water and urban sectors in the emerging markets. Her other assignments include as assistant manager in corporate finance for a merchant bank focusing on mergers and acquisitions and corporate restructuring, and in both audit and tax practices of Deloitte’s London. 

Makanda is qualified as a Chartered Accountant (CPA) with Deloitte’s in London, England. She earned a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from Cranfield School of Management in Bedford, England. Her undergraduate degree is a Bachelor of Science in Political Science from Brunel University in London, England.
